Bordeaux and Toulouse and area

I you were taking a trip to Bordeaux and had only a rail pass what side trips could be available and also if in Toulouse with a rail pass, what side trips would be good to see? How would you get to any of the National Parks nearby?

St. Emilion is a popular day trip from Bordeaux, and I think there's an inexpensive bus that gets you to and from. We spent most of the day in and around the village, tasting wine and biking through some vineyards.
