Since you are doing this last minute, with what looks like nine adults, what reason do you have to go to Bordeaux? What is attractive about it? Are you going there to something else and looking to get around after that? How soon is last minute?
How long is this trip? The weekend or two weeks?
I was planning a trip to Bordeaux and northern Spain that morphed into a trip to Spain. But I used this company in Alsace and I liked them so much that I'm planning to use them for a couple of tours in Bordeaux, whenever I get there:
With 9 adults and 5 children how do you expect to find last minute accommodation ? How "last minute" is this trip? How many rooms are you seeking to house all 14 of you? What is your budget? As to "what to do", what are the interests of your diverse group and how child-oriented should suggestions be? You need to tell us more so someone here can help you.
We were there in 2003, primarily for the wine country, which may not be a priority for your youngsters. The city itself looked interesting and vibrant, but we immediately headed to the countryside and had a rented gite (country house) for a week north of town, in Saint-André-de-Cubzac. It was a delightful town (14 years ago), and is also the hometown and birthplace of the Cousteau family, including the famous explorer Jacques Cousteau. We made a pilgrimage to his gravesite.
We wanted to stay in Bordeaux to mainly see st Emilion/winery. We also want to see Lourdes- Does anyone have info on Lourdes ?
Thank you Everyone !
Bordeaux to Lourdes is quite a long distance - two and a half hours one-way by train. If you want to do it you need to book rail tickets ASAP in case there are any cheap advance tickets still going.
Saint Emilion is a lovely little town - try to get on a tour of the underground cave church. You can get there by local train from Bordeaux but it's about a thirty-minute walk from the railway station to the village.
The join us in France podcast has you covered.
