So excited about this trip and all the new experiences since it's my first time to Europe. I can't believe my luck though, the weather forecasts for France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy shows lots of rain, thunderstorms and generally not friendly to be outside walking around weather ... I specifically chose August for the summer weather, oh well. C'est le vie!
I was in Germany last August, and while it rained every day, it wasn't cold or windy. I found that a rain jacket and umbrella over a light sweater was enough to feel comfortable.
Your mileage may vary, of course, but I think that if you plan on layering and have a "just large enough" day bag to put shed clothes into that you will be fine.
And weather forecasts are, by nature, changeable ...!
Good morning 2009laurens,
Don't be affraid. You will stay 2 weeks. So you will see sun. I live 130 km from Paris. We had a beautiful weather in june and the first 2 weeks of july. Last week was not so great (wind, clouds and coldness) but not all the day long : I go to work by foot and I had to use my umbrella only twice. And today, I can see from my window that the sunshine is back. In Italy, it's very sunny and hot in august (except sometimes in the Alps).
It reminds me the first time I visited United States, I was so excited !
Bon voyage !
Caroline
Any forecasts more than 5 days out - you are talking up to almost a month - are just educated guesses.
The jetstream can and does change, sometimes nearly daily, and a lot depends on what the USA puts on the jetstream in terms of lows.
Don't worry. Plan for wet weather and be pleasantly surprised.
I would totally disregard a long range weather forecast! And you will need a mix of clothes, Italy WILL be hot, but it may be a bit cool( especially at night) in northern countries( Switzerland for example) so bring a light rain / wind jacket and a sweater or lightweight fleece. Bring a sundress/ skirt or capris for hot weather too!
And as I said , no weather forecast is good more then 4-5 days out!
I think my first souvenir will be a Paris fashionable rain jacket. Thank you for the replies.
