Boat on Lac St. Croix and getting there

Hi, following a night in Goult we are planning to drive on thru Gorges Verdon to Lac St. Crouch. We want to get a peddle boat, swim, and boat into the gorge as far as possible. What's the best place to rent a peddle boat for this Moustiers or someplace closer? Also, I hear the road to Verdon is "hairy" - how bad is it exactly?

The map on p. 495 of Rick's Provence & Riviera book points to boat rental right where route D-952 meets the lakeshore, southeast of Moustiers. It looks like the one that Google Maps identifies as Base de l'Etoile.

Thanks, Laura, I should have noticed that. I'm wondering if anyone's done the drive from Nice - does it really take nearly 3 hours?

Hi,

From Nice Exit Le Muy then Draguignan - Villecroze - Aups - Les Salles/Verdon. It will take you 2hours and half, be careful to check on map before to take the road instead of following your GPS!

The journey is worth it ;)

Hi KidB

By the bridge in front of the gorge there are boat hire places on both banks though I would go for the one with the bigger beach area. Some have a registering system with an allotted time given so you can go off and swim rather than hang around (if its busy). Not sure when your going but they don't stay open all the time. Its really worth doing.

Suggest you visit Moustiers (ten minutes drive from the lake) whilst your at it as that makes for a really good day out.

Best

Thanks all for your input. We ended up doing it as a round trip from Goult. Took something over 2 hours each way along a generally beautiful drive. Lac Sainte-Croix was fantastic and well worth the drive.
