BlaBla car

We need to get from Paris (Marais) to Chartres then two days later from Chartres to CDG. (We are staying overnight at an airport hotel so no big rush to get to airport). Train looks a bit cumbersome. We are considering using a car service. Anyone have experience with BlaBla Car, Welcome Pickups or can recommend another car service.

We have used daytrip.com on numerous occasions. Every experience with them has been positive.

All of this is super easy to do by train. We did an overnight to Chartres last year and it was easy by train -- the station in Chartres is a short stroll to the Cathedral and center of the old town. At Gare Montparnasse on your return you could easily get a cab to the airport for 65 Euro. or you could take the 6 metro to Denfert Rochereau and transfer to the RER B to the airport. I'd recommend coming into Paris mid day and stowing your luggage, perhaps at Gare du Nord and enjoying the evening and a good dinner in Paris before heading to the airport. After our first awful -- overpriced AND barely edible dinner at the Airport Hilton we have made it our practice to not arrive at the airport hotel till after dinner.

I always understood BlaBlaCar to be a sort of uber for hitchhikers. Drivers log where they are going and the system puts them in touch with people who want to go with them.

I haven’t hitchhiked since 1973, but I used BlablaCar, from the Nice airport to my home city in France when my direct flight from Rome was cancelled. It worked well for us and I’d do it again. But we’re French speakers and my husband just wanted to get home rather than sleep in a Nice hotel and take a train the next day. The French government promotes BlablaCar, giving drivers money for gas after their third rideshare. The government doesn’t subsidize Uber.
