I got sick the week before Christmas, just a cough and head cold then New Years weekend, it turned into fever, chills, worse cough (that meds don't even touch), body aches etc. No questions really but just hoping we don't have to cancel our trip next week to Paris for my birthday. I could use some prayers and good wishes. Thanks.
Hope you have seen a doctor. Probably by next week you will feel a lot better. In any case, prayers are not as useful as medication and lots of bed rest. Good luck and Bon voyage.
I echo what Norma said. You've got a week so I hope you can get to the doctor tomorrow (if you haven't been) to get whatever med(s) you might need and follow the advice given so you CAN go on your special trip!
The same symptoms have been causing trouble where I live in Colorado. For me, the cough was the worse part. I caught whatever it is, finally saw a Dr. when I started running a temperature. He gave me meds for basic relief of fever, aches and pains and some nighttime cough syrup that contained codeine so I could sleep at night. Also advised me to drink lots of water and get plenty of rest. Everything finally kicked in and whatever it was worked it's way through my system in about 10 days. I bet you'll feel lots better by the time you need to get on that airplane!
You really should see a Dr. It's possible you may have developed a secondary infection and if that's the case antibiotics will help. If it's the flu the Dr. might give you antivirals which should shorten the duration.
Agreed on the above advice - go see a doctor NOW and explain that you have a trip coming up. The cough will be the worst part to treat, but fingers crossed that you're flyable for your birthday!!!
Diana, I'm hoping you've gotten sick early enough before your trip that you'll be well again and able to enjoy next week when it's time to depart!!!
Ask your pharmacy for "Mucinex" or the generic "Carbocysteine".
Both are expectorants and will get the cough under control.
You might ask the doctor for some codeine cough syrup so you can sleep on the plane.
Drink lots of water and ask the doctor if he thinks it's wise to take aspirin or Tylenol.
Then, get a tiny bottle of essential oil of peppermint and put a dab in each nostril. Works quite well, and opens everything up.
No doctor can cure the flu but some strong medication to abate coughing will be welcome both for your own comfort and that of the other occupants of your plane. In a Paris pharmacy once I was sold some lozenges that muffled if not eliminated my 'rhume'.
You might want to keep this in mind as you go with already lowered resistance.

Perfect timing, you will be done with your flu and no longer contagious when your trip gets here. Drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest. You will be fine.
Once you get over a flu, you won't catch that one again. Unfortunately, there are many strains of flu and catching one doesn't give you resistance to others.
I'm not a frequent doctor visitor. Tamaflu only works within the first couple of days of symptoms but something for the cough may be a good idea. If it's prescription and you still need it when you travel, remember the rules - original container and keep your doctor's prescription with you, both for the point of entry and in case you need to visit a pharmacy while you are there.
Thanks everyone. Yes we are much better now. Almost 100% so should be good to go on Wednesday. I'm super excited to spend my birthday in my favorite city!
Oh good!! Have been wondering about you and how you are feeling. Hope you have a safe and uneventful journey this week! And Happy Birthday! 🇫🇷🍾🎉
Merci bien!
