We will be staying the night in Honfleur on my birthday, Monday September 21st. I have been browsing through reviews on TA for restaurants. I had finally settled on one, Le Moulin Saint Georges, just to realize it was closed on Mondays! Ha! So, I'm hoping for suggestions. I would prefer to keep the meal at or under 100 euros, with a bottle of wine or maybe cidres instead since it's the specialty. Hopefully that is realistic? I'd like something with a charming atmosphere and relaxed. Not too "fancy". As far as particular food items, I wouldn't mind eating lobster, if it's good, I'll pay a little more since I know that can be costly. And I love dessert -- so I definitely want a place with good dessert! :)
There are many restaurants on the quay around the inner harbor. You can get platters of "fruits de mer," which may include lobster. If you look at Google Maps you may find names of some of the restaurants and can check the ratings. If you go early, you probably won't need reservations. Most of the restaurants have seating outdoors under cover, so you can stroll along, checking out what the diners are eating, and choose the restaurant that looks like it is serving the best or most interesting food. All restaurants are required to post their menus, so it is easy to check prices.
Hi Julie
Personally I think Honfleur is one of those places where it's worth getting the right setting as well as decent, affordable food with pleasant service. I thought the Cap 42 was very good in that respect, though it may not be quite gastronomic enough for you. Give it a thought though, but should you go, do go for a table on the quay so you can enjoy the views.
