We'll be in Bergheim for 5 days and plan to do some day trips in the car to Strasbourg, Gengenbach and a few others, but I'd like to bike more than ride in a car. I am hoping from Bergheim it would be easy enough to bike to Ribeauville, Riquewihr, Hunawihr, maybe even Kaysersberg. Our Airbnb has bikes there, but not ebikes.
Has anyone ridden around these villages? Is it fairly flat to do on non e-bikes?
Most villages are in the Rhine Valley and the area is in general flat. I have no biking experience there, but speaking as a Dutchman it shouldn’t be a problem.
We biked from Ribeauville to Riquewihr to Kaysersberg to Ammerschwihr to Colmar in one day. Yes we had e-bikes, but that was all pretty flat. Very gentle and very modest hills around Riquewihr, but nothing to speak of. We had time for lunch in Kaysersberg and wine tasting in Ammerschwihr. You could likely make it from Bergheim to Kaysersberg and back in a day.
Bergheim was charming. I loved the sorcerer’s garden in the shadow of the church.
It will also be quite flat for you to cycle in the other direction to Obernai, so long as you don’t try to cycle the hill up to Haute Koenigsburg. For that, you’ll definitely want e-bikes.
