RS France has biking loops for south and north of Beaune. Is it feasible to do the south loop to Puligny-Montrachet and back to Beaune and then do the first part of the north loop to Aloxe-Corton and back in 4-5 hours including stops along the way?
Do you know the total distance involved?
roughly 40 km according to google maps...
Well, I don't know your pace when biking, but that's probably reasonable if your stops are short.
If you intend on a leisurely ride, with a half hour here or there at a winery, then, no, it would take longer than 4-5 hours.
I have biked these roads. There is nothing especially challenging about them in terms of terrain.
Continuing south to la Rochepot would entail a bit of a hill, though nothing that I would call a big deal.
If you can bike 25 miles of slightly rolling terrain, you can do this ride.
PS There is an unusual tasting lunch in Aloxe-Cortone that is worthwhile.
Thank you Adam and The Other Bob. Can you elaborate on the tasting lunch in Aloxe-Corton?
Tasting lunch: You get a standard menu of Burgundian classics, nothing fancy (coq au vin or boef b, jamon perselee, etc.) and a choice of wines.
One option give you 4 wines and they are good. Another gives you 6 and they are good. The top tier is 6 grand cru wines.
It is possible to bicycle after one of these--I wouldn't want to drive!
Thanks Adam!
