Bike rental in Bordeaux

Hi there! We will be in Bordeaux next week ( arrive April 29) . Staying in a rural area with my English family .. my husband is a committed cyclist and he wants to rent a bike to go for rides .. but he doesn't want a run of the mill road ( touring) bike & so far the photos I have shown him online of firms in the city of Bordeaux that rent bikes have not thrilled him as the rental bikes are not up to his standard! He can't bring one of his bikes on the trip. But He would love to rent a Cervelo road bike ( or similar) .. maybe a French brand that is similar ? Something someone would ride in the Tour de France ? If anyone has any info on a service or store in or near the city of Bordeaux where I could find such a bike to be rent I would be very grateful!! Many thanks, Victoria in Toronto

Your post made me curious, so I did an Online search, and probably came up with some of the same results as you. Two years ago, in Italy, my husband rented a racing-type BMC bike for a week from a small bike shop in a small town. In a big city like Bordeaux, you’d think that there would be more offerings.

What seems to come up, in French only, of course, with no English translations on their Websites, are bike stores with LOTS of e-bikes, and assorted utilitarian models. Those with Orbea, Trek, and other racing-type bikes have them for sale for €4,000 to €7,000 and up, but not for rent, as far as I can see.

I'm not sure which village you will be in but cycling is a huge sport in the countryside. We have pelotons passing our house every Saturday and Sunday. I know there are many small bicycle rental shops around the greater Gironde area but I'm not a cyclist so I don't know if they would offer what your husband needs/wants. This site may be a good place to start: https://www.gironde-tourisme.com/sur-place/balades/gironde-a-velo/conseils-astuces/location-de-velo/
Enjoy your trip!
