Big Changes in the L'Ignes d'Azur bus system!

Hi gang,

I am leaving tomorrow for the Nice area and asked the TI a question about passes for the bus lines.
As of July 1st, they eliminated paper tickets in favor of a rechargeable card. That card is an extra 2 euro fee.
So if one is boarding a bus, the fee will be the fare + the card. It appears that a one-way ticket is now 2 euros + the 2 euro charge for the card for a total of 4 euros. It sounds easier to buy the card pre-loaded at a station if there is a ticket machine. I'm going to be coming from Villefranche and don't believe there are any ticket machines at those stops.

Here's the flyer with more details.

Also, note that Bus Route 100 is now Route 607 as of the last few months. I sent in an email o the Rick Steves team but this information still has not been posted to the section of the website for guidebook updates. Given that Route 100 (now 607) is such a key route for the Low Corniche buses, this seems like key information you'll want to know

number 100 was so easy to remember - and 607 doesn't slip of the tongue quite so easily. foo.

Sorry I missed this post, but you can also use the Lignes d'Azur Ticket app on your smartphone instead of the new cards. You need to search for the app with Ticket in the name -- there are two apps, unfortunately. This is helpful if you can't get to a place where the cards are sold (there were big lines on the 1st - a real messed up deployment, even though locals had a way to order their cards for free online. The anonymous card is apparently refundable.

@Gooster -- I was just there, unfortunately on the day of the switch, and if there is a way to do it without a physical card, I could not find it. I had ALL the apps and a terrible time and ultimately could not figure this out. I just posted a few hours ago about this. The web site indicated you need a physical card as well. I was under the impression that once you have the card, you can just use apps (although I did buy a card from a driver and still could not make this work), but that you can't avoid the card.

@TravelChildMom -- I'm sorry you had troubles on the first day. The lines to get cards were so long (despite the fact the locals all were provide a website to register to get their own free cards).

The Ligne d'Azur app(s) (at least now) is available on Android with the ability to do tickets by NFC. You must however, download the Ligne d'Azur TICKET app and then you must also have a third plugin, called the "Carte Lignes d'Azur Mobile" to do the e-ticket NFC option. When you launch the app it give you the option to use a physical card or the NFC card option. This appears only to be available on Android right now; the iPhone used to have the option but disappeared under the new system (edited/correctedf)

Why a third app (there is a main app as well) is needed I do not know. The web site appears to be outdated, unfortunately. Also, the NFC option appears to be at a premium for certain ticketing options.

Ah just replied to you elsewhere. I just deleted and redownloaded Nice ticket and it still says it can’t be used any longer. Maybe it is because I am on the US App Store?

Oh, it looks like they completed disabled the iPhone option. I only have the android app and a physical card. It sounds like the iPhone app is in dire need of an upgrade.
