We're going to be in the Alsace for a few days this July - staying in Kaysersberg. We'd like to spend one of our days bicycling through the vineyards. I'm really confused as to routes, where to rent a bike, plus the particularities of leaving a bike when we have lunch or otherwise explore a town - do the shops give you a lock, etc? One of the ideas that I have is to bike from Kaysersberg > Riquewihr > Hunawir > Ribeauville via the sentier viticole and perhaps take a different route (higher or lower on the hillside maybe) - I've read that that route is particularly picturesque. I'm fairly definite on renting e-bikes but is there a rental shop in Kaysersberg or Ribeauville? Do they have maps of suggested routes? Is that route too far for two 50 somethings that are in decent shape? Are one way rentals possible? Lots of questions and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed... :-(

this one (Kaysersberg) may interest you:
The route you’ve referred to is awesome in either direction. Ribeauville, at the north end, does have a bike rental shop. I was there on V-E Day and the bike shop was closed as it was a national holiday. Undeterred, we walked the route from Ribeauville through Hunawihr and Riquewihr to Kaysersberg (and back!) Walking it was done from 12 noon until 7pm, so biking it both ways would be a breeze. It’s very flat terrain- so very easy . It was one of my most memorable days in 🇫🇷 France.
Thank you everyone! Great suggestions (as always!)
