my daughter and I will be in france in mid May and want to travel from Paris to Nice. any suggestions regarding doing this by train or plane?

Go to Gare de Lyon and take the train. But way in advance for a cheap fare.
Try to sit on the right hand side for the last 90 minutes as you parallel the Mediterranean Sea just feet away.

We have done this by train.. I bought cheap tickets as soon as they released them for sale.. paid 10 euros more for first class than second class.. think it was 40-45 euros ( 4 years ago )... lovely trip.. .got a bit long ( it is almost 6 hours) but we brought a picnic onboard and were very comfortable.
We befriended a couple of americans sitting across from us.. they just bought their tickets.. they paid almost 200 euros.. they didnt believe I got our tickets so cheap, I had to show them the invoice.. lol
We brought some lovely picnic type food with us .. its a much better way then eating from the concession car ( its not a proper "dining car" .. just a concession.. so pick up some food in paris before you board.
Flying is faster ( we've done that too ) but remember the time savings get eaten up by the comute to and from airports.. plus having to be at airports 1.5 hrs ahead.. so time wise you break even.. but relaxation wise train comes ahead. However.. flying can also be cheap.. so it really comes down to having another experience.
Ps all that said.. 6 hours would be my limit on a train.. any train.. we fly now if train ride is more than 4-5 hours.
