Looking to fly in to Marseilles and catch a train to Nice. What's the best way to do that?
Transfer from airport to main station? Or can one catch a train at the airport itself?

The Marseille Provence airport operates a particularly useful website. There are plenty of coaches (bus) into the city; here is some information from the airport. While there is a roundabout route by train, the bus is probably easier because the train terminal is also a hub for buses.

The bus from the airport to Marseille St Charles station leaves frequently and is definitely the best option. The "airport" train station is actually 1.5 miles away and requires a shuttle bus to get too, and it does not have any trains to Nice so you'd have to transfer in St Charles anyway.
As for cabs, they are quite expensive (in the region of 60€ IIRC).
