Best way to get to Paris from CDG... taxi or train?

Hello, our family is flying into CDG in May and staying in central Paris. We are wondering if using the train or a Taxi service from the airport would be the easiest/most affordable?

Personally, I take a taxi. Its a fixed rate EUR 56-65 depending on which side of the river. Worth it if you have luggage and don't know exactly where you are going. But in London, I take the Tube, because I'm more familiar with London. Depends on your level of comfort.

I usually take a taxi from the airport. Every once in a while, I take the train for my departure from Paris. Taxis are a flat rate of €56 to the Right Bank and €65 to the Left Bank for up to four passengers. Easiest and most affordable are not interchangeable. The train might be more affordable if we means two people. It could also be easiest if you are staying near one of the stops in Paris or if the possibility of sitting in a taxi in traffic is annoying for you. I like taxis for the door to door aspect of the trip. Not to overthink it, but easiest could also depend on the ages and mobility of the family members.

Thank you. We have 4 adults, with luggage. A taxi sounds so much easier. And from what I've read, would the G7 app be the way to secure a taxi once we land? Or are there taxi stands outside CDG?

I totally agree with JHK. I travel solo and my last time in Paris I took the train and found it very easy, quick and efficient and I hate sitting in traffic. So I think it depends on how many in your party and how you all feel about public transportation.
Added: Yes, there are taxi stands and you should them to ensure you get the flat rate. Don't take one with a driver who just walks up to you and offers you a ride.

You do not need to use G7. Just make sure you get in the official taxi stand line and you will be fine.

Arriving at the airport, you will simply follow the signs for TAXIS to join the taxi line. No need to use the app.

Do not go with anyone who approaches you in the terminal and insists they are an official taxi..just go to the line.

When you get to the head of the line, they will ask how many people you have - with four people, you might have to wait a few minutes before a big-enough vehicle comes around, but it won't be long at all.

When you leave baggage claim at CDG, look for the footprints on the floor that says "TAXIS". Follow them to the taxi rank. Be cautious because you'll for sure be accosted by several people along the way with offers of a taxi. DO NOT GO WITH THEM. Just say no and keep on walking. They're unlicensed drivers who are not bound by the laws licensed taxi drivers are and can charge you anything.

If your French isn't up to snuff, have your destination address, including the postal code, written on a piece of paper and hand it to the driver. I might also write either €56 or €65, depending on the appropriate amount, as well, so he knows that you know what the fare is. No tip is expected or required.

I find the train (RERB) extremely easy and convenient. It really depends on budget. That said, with a group, a taxi becomes more economical

Yes, a taxi is essentially cheaper than the train for a party of four once you add in the value of your stress and time.

Four people on the RER = 52€

Four people in a taxi to the Right Bank = 56€

Four people in a taxi to the Left Bank = 65€

It's worth the 13€ not to have to find a way to buy four tickets, schlep your bags up and down stairs, find the right direction, find your right local train direction, and get up out of the metro station to walk the final few hundred meters to your lodging. It's definitely worth 4€.

years ago we and friends landed at Orly -- my daughter husband and I took a cab to our hotel; our friends took the then available mix of public transport. They ended up paying as much as we did but then had to carry bags up metro stairs and then find the hotel on foot.

for 4 people taxi absolutely. Tips not required.

If you are with family members with luggage in tow, then take the taxi.

I always take RER B from Paris Nord but after the very last experience in Sept of 2025, packed in like sardines during rush hour, the experience as a solo rider was even according to my tolerance limits getting pretty unbearable at times. Luckily I had only carry-on.. I thought blowing the money, the set taxi rate, might just be worth it.

I've always taken the train between CDG and Paris and am fine with it, but that's probably because I travel light and am used to budget backpacking. However with multiple people and luggage, the taxi becomes a better option for the simplicity of it.

It's not just getting on the train. You have to buy the tickets, find the station and route, know where to get off, and beyond that it largely depends on where you’re staying. If you’ll be staying in a hotel that is not close to the train line that comes in from the airport, then you have to either drag all your people and luggage through the Metro network to transfer to another line (which in Paris can involve long tunnels and lots of stairs between tracks), or get up to the surface to find a taxi for the last mile. Not to mention watching out for subway pickpockets, although that hasn’t happened to us.

We’re going to Paris soon and will take the train from the airport again, because we're cheap and we're used to the system. But in your case, with the number of people and bags, the taxi sounds like much lower hassle and a better value all around.

Thank you again everyone. Sounds like a taxi is the answer for us.

NOW, how should we expect to pay? Credit card or be prepared with euros?

Card.

Credit card, and don't let them guilt you into a tip. It is not the norm for the French and just makes it harder for everyone else because they have begun to expect tips from tourists.

I disagree that there is pressure to tip from taxi's; but we used G7. We were there last year; we used the official taxi line at CDG (not the app) and then a lot of Paris taxi's using the official G7 Paris taxi app getting around Paris. (it's similar in how to use like the uber apps). So there was no discussion from anyone about tips. Everything is clicking on your phone app. Or on their screens. Credit cards are the norm. That was our experience. Everyone we encountered was totally professional; and taxi's were sparkling clean.

"NOW, how should we expect to pay? Credit card or be prepared with euros?"

As the driver is loading my bag into the back in the pick up area, I hold up my CC or more recently my iPhone and ask "OK?".

I also have a 3x5 card with the name of my hotel and the full address (including the location code that starts with 750XX) to hand to the driver to put into his GPS. Out beside the addressI have the flat rate taxi fare written - so for my usual hotel area it's 65E - so the driver knows I know what the rate will be. I've never had anyone try to rip me off but it makes me feel better to get that out in the open.
