I am just beginning trip planning for Beaune. I would like to fly into the Burgundy area. I was hoping to avoid CDG but if necessary will go that route. Any recommendations regarding flying from the U.S. to this area. Thanks so much!
I don't think you'll find any airports nearby which have direct flights from North America with the exception of Geneva. Other airports would be Basel-Mulhouse-Freiberg EuroAirport, and Lyon St Exupery. All those will have public transport options to get you to Beaune.
Avoiding CDG would only complicate your trip and, most likely, add additional costs. Simplest way from the States to Beaune would be to fly to CDG and take the TGV directly from the airport, though you'd have to change trains in Dijon. Otherwise, fly to Geneva and rent a car.
A friend of mine born and raised in Beaune favors flying into Geneva from the US when going home to see her family.
If you do end up flying into deGaulle despite your misgivings, you might want to consider ground transport to Gare Lyon by bus.

This is the option formerly known as the Air France Bus. It is express to the train station, and pretty comfortable.
I would recommend taking the fast train from Lyon over the slower one from Bercey, in this case. But if you find a better option via Geneva or whatever, please let us all know.
