Best way from Gare St Lazare to Saint-Germain

My daughter and I are planning our first trip to France. We will be coming from Caen to Paris and need to get to our apartment on Rue Guisarde. We will each have a large tote bag and a carry-on size spinner. I'm not sure if we should take a bus, metro, or taxi. Since we are not at all familiar with Paris, I was thinking we should take a taxi. Thank you in advance :)

With luggage and two people it might be nice to splurge on a cab.

There are also easy bus or metro options. In Paris, I like the official http://www.ratp.fr website. It provides the best to find directions on buses and trains. Better than Google Maps in my experience.

Metro would be No 12 line (direction Mairie d'Issy) to Sevres-Babylone, change to No 10 line (direction Gare d'Austerliz) one stop to Mabillon, walk from there.
Then again, maybe a taxi will be a whole lot easier.

If we take the Metro line 12, do we change to line 10 in the same station? Or will we have to walk up stairs, walk to another station, and then go back down into another station? Hopefully I make since.

Since they are intersecting lines, you will have to either go up or down stairs to change. Not sure which or both.
Edit- Line 10 crosses beneath line 12, so it is down stairs.

I was just at the Sevres-Babylone train station last month getting Line 10 to the Latin Quarter and for the life of me I do not recall major stairs between lines 12 and 10. I did not have any luggage so maybe I just did not notice. Even so, I would take a taxi in your shoes. If you don't speak French, write the street address on a piece of paper (including the postal zone) and give that to the driver. Unless traffic is bad, expect to pay around 20 euros for the trip.
