Indeed, take the train.
Either TGV to St Pierre des Corps and then backtrack to local to Amboise, or go into town (into Paris that is) and take the slow local train from Gare d'Austerlitz.
It's a bit of a walk into the central part of Amboise from the train station, but easily doable. I have done it several times.

Three options:
- TGV from CDG to St Pierre des Corps, connect to Amboise by TER (regional train).
- Go into Paris, take the TGV from Montparnasse to St Pierre des Corps, connect to Amboise by TER.
- Go into Paris, take the regional train from Gare Austerlitz directly to Amboise, generally requires a train change at Orléans.

In 2021 we did option 1 described in Tocard's (9/01 6:41am) response. From our trip report:
Arrived at AMBOISE via train on Aug 24 (Tue) at 12:40pm after an 8:10am landing at CDG.

It is an easy transfer, as noted above.
My hotel booked a taxi pick-up for me on my arrival and departure in Amboise. Again as noted, the walk from station to central Amboise is not terribly long with flat sidewalks, but I preferred a taxi with luggage. On the several days I took trains to chateaux leaving from the station, I walked. I don’t recall taxis waiting at the station that had not been pre-booked. Trip was fall 2024, less than one year ago.
