Best way for us to spend 4 days in Nice? Best towns to visit for food + views vs staying in Nice

Hi! We are ending our 2 week anniversary trip next month in Nice. We will have already been in Switzerland and Lake Como. Definitely want to fully experience the cuisine more than anything and see a couple scenic coastal towns. The only must-sees I have so far is Eze and then one colorful, waterfront town. Hotel will be near the Nice train station.

Tentative itinerary is:

  1. Arrive in the evening from Italy. Dinner somewhere in Nice near hotel.

  2. For the day with best weather: Bus early to Eze, then bus to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat for lunch, walk around cape, late afternoon/evening in Villefranche. (Should we reverse order of this day?)

  3. Train out to Menton in AM, stop by Monaco for like an hour to say we've been there. Hang in Menton, back in Nice for the evening/dinner. (If we were just in lake como is this too much overlap in vibe? Would Antibes be more unique?)

  4. Either full day in Nice (old town, promenade, maybe a museum) or head to Antibes for a half day for the beach.

  5. Morning in Nice, fly out 2pm.

Let me know any thoughts on the order of seeing these areas and how doable seeing all these would be or what we should cut out!

Lovely itinerary. I would stay in Nice the last day. Old town is fun, enjoy strolling on the Promenade. Have a beach day. Have cocktails on a rooftop bar in the evening.

I thought Menton was rather dull. We spent about an hour there then turned around and spent the majority of the day in Monaco. An hour in Monaco will barely be worth the trouble of stopping. From the train station it's an uphill walk to the Palace side or an uphill walk in the other direction to the casino side.

I would recommend the Chagall Museum and the Matisse chapel in Nice. And the food! Oh the food. Glorious. Worth hanging out to eat Socca and pissaladiere. It's a lovely town and worth at least spending a full day in. I've spent many happy days within city limits.

Ville-Franche-sur-Mer is a great short trip away by train. Fun to eat Salade Nicoise overlooking the bay. And, VFSM is a delightful old town to walk through.
