Best walk back from the Eiffel Tower?

We will be in Paris next month, and have tickets to the Eiffel Tower for 7:30 pm (sunset is about 8). After we are done there (could be after the 9:00 twinkling), what would be the nicest walk back to our hotel in the Latin Quarter (near the Pantheon)?

While the previous reply shows the quickest way, if you added maybe 10 minutes to your walk, your could walk along the Seine. Occasionally dipping down to the walkway right along the river. You'll see the lights, the boats, and if you keep on going come up to a nice view of Notre-Dame. To me, walking below street level by the Seine is magical—especially at night.
Just follow the previous link, and click/drag the walkway all the way to the river (in a couple of places if need be), to get a new route.

Agree. If you want the scenic route, just walk along the quays beside the river until you are opposite Ile de la Cite. Then turn up Blvd St Michel or Rue St Jacques.

Tried to do a similar walk a couple of years ago to a hotel on Ile Saint-Louis. Trust me, it's a lot farther than it looks and we wound up doing the last one third in a pedicab which was an experience in itself. Just something to keep in mine after what will no doubt be a day already full of walking.

I agree with the comment about it being much farther than it looks -- but, if you go from the Eiffel Tour to the Metro to return to the Latin Quarter, you also do a whole lot of walking to get to the appropriate Metro connection. Bottom line, the Eiffel Tower is set in a vast green space that's not terribly close to anything else. Well, that's probably a bit of a sweeping generalization, but you get the idea.

Thanks all for the input. It sounds like the walk along the Seine is the most scenic. Does the "quickest way" in the first reply have charm and interest also? I recently read The Most Beautiful Walk in the World (by John Baxter) and wanted to seize the opportunity of that walk back from the Tower to absorb more of the City of Light. And yes, we might just be too tired and end up taking the Metro--too bad the Batobus doesn't run that late (Sept 14th)!

One other option to consider is taking a bus. They travel above ground, so you get to see the city. I took one from near the Luxembourg Gardens to very near the Eiffel tower. I don't remember the number, but it looks like the 82 bus leaves from several stops along the Champ de Mars, and ends near the Luxembourg RER stop. Total time around a half-hour, with 12 of that walking.Third option here:

I'm a total convert to the bus system in Paris. It's a great way to see the city while getting around.

Update: We walked back, but I was very very tired by the time we got back to the hotel. I believe the Metro would have been a better choice. Still, it was worth it for sunset at the Eiffel Tower!

Hi Michele, I was curious to read what you did as our hotel was close to the Pantheon. I got to the point one evening that I was exhausted walking so I took the RER C at Champs de Mars to St Michel and took the RER B to Luxembourg. It was easy and comfortable.
