Trying to finish itinerary that includes visits to a few Cathar sights as well as Rennes-le-Chateau and Carcassone and wondered which nearby town or village would be the best place to stay for a few days. We have up to 4 days to stay in the area. Any thoughts or recommendations

About one hour east of Rennes is the “back door” town of Cucugnan. It’s a little gem with a working mill that grinds flour for the bakery in its base. You could visit the nearby Château de Quéribus. We stayed at the Auberge du Vigneron. Great rooms, nice staff. They have an excellent restaurant downstairs where you’ll get an excellent cassoulet.
