What is best time of day to do Eiffel Tower in January? As soon as opens, mid day, sunset, dark?
If you mean to go up the tower, we like to go in daylight rather than at night. If you're getting timed tickets in advance, then any time is ok, since you don't have to wait in the loooooong ticket line. But if you aren't getting advance tickets, then the earlier the better.
At night I'd rather look AT the ET, rather than from it. Preferably from a Seine river boat.
Do yourself a favor and to back to see the Eiffel Tower from a distance at sundown. Take the metro to the Trocadero station and come up the escalator to street level. You'll be about 200 yards from the Tower--across the river and up the hill a little. The view from there when they start those strobe lights is absolutely incredible.
We went up to the second level about 5:30 on October 1. It was windy down at ground level and at level two we were blasted by the wind. It was not pleasant! I would not advise going up there in January when it is windy. The temperature doesn't matter as much as the wind.
The best time would be when it is not raining because visibility can be non existent. I would absolutely not pre purchase ET tickets for a January visit.
I don't know how it is now, but 6 years ago they would not even sell advance tickets to the top from early January to the end of February, only to the 2nd level. If the weather was nice, you could buy a ticket on the 2nd level to the top.
