I'm getting ready to book our tickets online for the Eiffel tower, in July. I'd like to go around sunset time so that we could see the tower illuminated as well. I'm planning on booking the 8:00pm time, but as sunset is around 9:57, is there a cafe or place that we could hang out until then to wait? Or just hang out in the grass in front?

if you book at 8 you have to go up at 8 or so -- they won't honor a ticket an hour later. We prefer night -- going up at dusk is best IMHO. Here is what is looked like in the rain at night a year or two ago:

Thanks so much Jane, your pictures are beautiful. You've convinced me, I'll book the last timed entrance at 8:00pm. I was just a little concerned about the area around the tower around 10-11, I heard there are a lot of pushy street vendors and so on.
