Best time for Provence/Barcelona next spring?

My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip next spring, visiting Provence and Barcelona. Since we want to fly on Saturdays, and we are using United Saver miles, availability might be limited, especially as we get closer to summer.

Right now, we are looking at a two week trip, sometime between mid April to mid June, but ideally around Memorial day to have the extra day off. We don't want to go too early and have cool temperatures and lots of rain, but don't want to go too late with crowds of people or really hot weather (95+). We don't mind reasonably hot weather, and may rent a house in Provence for a week with a pool if we go in late May or June. For those of you who have been to Provence or Barcelona, any suggestions for the "ideal" two week window?

That being said, we are looking to book our miles tickets as possible, while we see award availability.

Late may is perfect for both locations. Enjoy. It is easy to train betw both locations also.

Reminder to try reserve an open-jaw or multi-city trip with your miles, such as flying into Nice or Marseille and home from Barcelona; there should be no "price" difference.

Direct trains to Barcelona take 4.5 hours from Marseille, 4 from Avignon, or 3 from Nimes. From Nice, train travel time is longer but cheap flights are a viable option.

We went in late May to Provence, Barcelona, and Dordogne, and the weather was wonderful.

Thanks everyone for your replies

Right now there's award flights available on Saturday, the 14th to either Barcelona or Paris. I'm thinking we'll fly into Barcelona, and out of Paris and fly back on May 29th. My husband mentioned he'd love to go the the French Open for a day if it works out. (May 22nd-June 6). Since we are using miles, I can always change the outbound flights to Nice or Marseille if we don't get Open tickets.

Does anyone have pros/cons on starting in Barcelona, then Provence, and lastly Paris (or Nice) or the opposite direction?

You know I was going to say in my reply that it's a great time to be in France, that's why Cannes and Roland Garros are in May. In theory the weather should be warmer earlier in Barcelona, so start there.
