Best scenic route from St. Paul de Vence to Verdon Gorge

Hoping you can confirm or correct our planned route from St. Paul de Vence to Verdon Gorge. Please note that we like scenic routes, we don't mind twisty roads, and we don't care about missing Grasse.

We're planning to take D2 rather than D6085 for the first part. Make sense?

The main question is about the second part: Whether to take the northern route on D4085 through Castellane, or the more southern route on D21/D955 through Comps-sur-Artuby. Or something else entirely.

Your thoughts?

Hi!

For the first part, I actually recommend the D6 through the Gorges du Loup, joining the D2 near Greolieres, and heading west towards D6085 (route Napoleon)

Then I do recommend the D21 via Comps sur Artuby, with a quick side trip to lovely Bargeme (village on a hill, semi abandoned), and the D71 along the Verdon Gorge (south Rim aka Corniche Sublime), with lots of scenic stops including the Balcons de la Mescla, the Artuby bridge and a fantastic viewpoint right after some tunnels (tunnels du Fayet).

It's more scenic than the north rim route IMO.

Thanks so much for your guidance! Having never been to the area, it's a challenge, just looking at large-scale maps, to determine what route will be most scenic and enjoyable. I appreciate your help.

Hi balso,

Quick question. from tunnels du Fayet. it appears to be straighforward to continue on D71 to Aiguines, then northward to Moustiers (our destination at end of day). But Google Maps is showing that D71 is closed midway between the tunnels and Aiguines, and that we'll have to detour all the way up through Trigance and across D952 through Rougon. Can you confirm whether Maps is correct about this? (I realize we could bypass the Corniche Sublime to shorten the route, but now you've got us psyched to see it, even if it means some backtracking.)

Thanks again for your guidance!
