We drove the reverse a few years ago and followed the suggested route from Via Michelin - which went through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, and down through Italy and then across the Riviera.
Sorry I do not have the exact directions handy, but if you find that route on a map it seemed to work well.
Thanks looks like a good route. Did the toll booths take visa?
I can't recall but since I am Canadian with chip and pin my experiences with Visa might differ from yours anyway.
Another bonus to the route (for my DH anyway) is being able to say he drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel!
I agree with Andrea. Unless you have a special small town you wanted to see on the way, Google maps is pretty good with directions and timing. You can print them up and take them with you. www.viamichelin.com will also have info on costs and tolls. I hope this helps some.
