Best restaurants in Paris

Hi,
We will be in Paris on Sept. 24 and 25. Staying by Champs Elysees and Eiffel Tower with easy access to La Defense and the Porte Maillot Congress Center.
Any recommendations for good restaurants? We like authentic French food. One night "spurge" and another night bistro type.
Also if you have any recommendations for great patisseries and boulangeries that would be super.

Merci Beacoup,
Joan

Hi,
Champs Elysées & Eiffel Tower are not adjacent: could you specify where you are staying? We don't need the exact address, but the neighborhood or nearest metro stop would be helpful.

trutestein,
Not fancy, but authentic Bretagne crepes (savory buckwheat crepes) is Breizh Cafes. There are more than one around. We ate in the one in St. Germain de Pres.
Paris has thousands of eateries. 90% of them will be very good. We have never splurged in Paris, so can't suggest any place fancy.

For your bistro experience, may I suggest Au Petit Suisse? It is near the Luxembourg Gardens.

There is seating both downstairs and on a charming upstairs interior balcony, which is delightfully romantic.

The food is reliably good: honest French bistro fare made fresh with high quality ingredients. There’s a salad with blue cheese, walnuts, country ham, cherry tomatoes and pears that is to die for - and I loved their classic onion soup.

We’ve been a few times now and never had a single disappointing dish. It was recommended to us by a bartender at the nearby Scottish pub near the Pont Neuf. We plan to go again the next time we are in Paris.

Honestly, that hotel description sounds like it was copied word for Word from the hotels website. You could be anywhere in Paris based on that description

Our splurge was Le Violon d’Ingres on Rue St Dominque. Michelin dining but very inviting service and experience

What did you think of the recommendations in Rick's book (hint hint)?

Thank you for your suggestions re: Breizh Cafe and Au Petit Suisse for good eats!
Do not have the Paris or France Rick Steves book. But will read the recommendations. Thanks for the idea.
Staying on the Avenue Victor Hugo. Sorry for not posting the street of the hotel. In the 16th district. Haven't been to Paris for fifty years so just started looking at the trip.

We viewed the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero/Palais de Chaillot side of the Seine, and afterward ate at Restaurant Victor in the 16th. It is a brasserie with posters from French cinema on the walls and a friendly, hip vibe. They serve many French classics and have an extensive wine list. Prices were very acceptable for a party of three. Many good reviews.

Thank you for the location details.
Near you, restaurant Nomicos, on the fancy side, has very good Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

We really enjoyed Le Vin Coeur at 4 Ave Carnot which is near the Arc de Triomphe and not far from Avenue Victor Hugo. The food was wonderful and the prices were reasonable. We ate there 3 times on our trip to Paris.

Sorry! Had to add La Closerie de Lilas! It’s an old haunt of Hemingway, apparently, and very close to the Port Royal Metro stop.

We had a family Christmas Eve dinner there last year and it was amazing! Absolutely stunning old world French service in the best possible way. Wonderful food - also in a very old school style - that was gracious and perfectly presented and absolutely delectable. My beef cut like butter. My husband’s seafood tower was exquisite. Little amuse bouche came to the table between courses. The decor is lavish and so classy. (That’s the only word I can think of for it.)

Yes, it is expensive so I believe it would count as a splurge. But I will carry those memories to my grave.

for the best boeuf bourguignon in Paris and the best dessert ever, their grand marnier souffle, try Chez Dumonet Josephine. Reserve well ahead; they like many Paris restaurants are closed weekends. Their duck and steak frittes are also good but I always get the beef. You can get a half order which is perfect for most. when I dined with my husband and son, they had me get a full order and they ordered the steak and the duck and then had some of my beef. traditional bistrot food

Thank you for all the great restaurant suggestions. Since Hemmingway summered in MI my home state, will probably go to the Hemmingway Bar. Again so appreciate it.
