My wife and I will be spending a few days in Provence this September. We would like to visit some of the picturesque villages in the area (probably by car), but she has mobility issues and doesn't do well with extensive climbing of stairs or hills. Can anyone recommend better (or worse) choices of villages based on that limitation? Thanks.
L'Isle sur la Sorgue is quite flat and quite pretty, but it is a mob scene on Sunday for the market. I haven't been there for the smaller Thursday market so can't say how much impact it has. The Sunday market doesn't cover all the streets in town, but it covers a lot of them. Getting through the crowds is an issue even for those without physical challenges, and it's hard to appreciate the appearance of the town when there's a vendor's booth blocking your view. On the other hand, the Sunday market is quite an experience.
St-Remy is another possibility.
I didn't have a car, so I didn't get to many small places. I'm sure other posters can come up with additional suggestions.
the village of Loumarin is also pretty flat. In most Luberon villages, I was able to park close to the center of town, even if that was uphill, more so than in Tuscany, for instance.
I recall that Bedoin was fairly flat. The main reason to go would be the market (I believe it was on Monday). It was FABULOUS!
