Our family will be staying in le Marais in October and would love some input on places people have particularly enjoyed in that neighborhood (cafes, etc.). Obviously, the internet is a good resource for getting recommendations, but it's good to hear peoples' personal experiences also. We will be exploring other parts of Paris, so recommendations for Paris in general would be welcome also. Places that are interesting and eclectic would be great to know about, as well as outdoor cafes.
I love the Marais, and have been staying there each year for many years… my favorites are:
Carette (a café) at Place des Vosges, expensive but worth it.
Sushi Shop at 51 rue St Antoine for take-out sushi, inexpensive and very good
Noodle Corner at 43 rue St Antoine, inexpensive, really good, indoor/outdoor tables
Place des Vosges is wonderful. We sometimes take a picnic breakfast there
(Stop at a patisserie and the produce store for fresh squeezed OJ) on your way
Enter Place des Vosges through Hotel de Sully on rue St Antoine, right across the street from Monoprix at 71 rue St Antoine. It was a stately home in the 1700s and is beautiful. Across from Monoprix you’ll see a large entrance with “Hotel de Sully” over the entrance. Keep walking through and you’ll be at Place des Vosges.
I really like the above mentioned Monoprix and always buy gifts there to bring home (soap, dishtowels, etc).
If you like Birkenstocks (much less expensive in Paris than the US)… there's a Birkenstock store at 16 rue de Sévigné
Ugg Store at 26 rue du Vieille Temple
A wonderful perfume store…
Parle Moi de Parfum at 10 rue de Sevigné
The Bastille outdoor market at Place de Bastille (most days & weekends for sure)
Inexpensive cool clothes for 30 yr olds and under… Jules at 16 rue du Faubourg
Expensive very cool clothes for 30 yr olds and under… IKKS (for men) at 6 rue des Rosiers… the store for women is across the street
For an American diner… Breakfast in America at 4 rue Malher
The Carnavalet Museum
The Picasso Museum
Victor Hugo’s house that you can tour at Place des Vosges (Google for days/hours)
Église St Paul-St Louis at 99 rue St Antoine is a beautiful church and the interior is worth a stop
Musée Nissim de Camondo at 63 rue de Monceau in the 8 th arrondissement (near the Arc de Triomphe) is wonderful. It was the home of a wealthy family in the early 1900s and very enjoyable to tour. Think the French version of Downton Abbey, lol. I prefer this home to the Jacqemart-André which is often recommended.
Parc Monceau behind the Nissim de Camondo is very nice.
Oh… i forgot my favorite place of all in Paris… the Luxembourg Gardens in the 6th arrondissement. Very worth an hour or two of your time. It has 2 cafés, bathrooms, boules (aka bocce ball), a crèpe stand, ice cream… It’s a beautiful park.
Thank you, appreciate your information!
Welcome, i hope you have a great time!
Take a look at the Earful Tower podcast. Last week they did an episode on the Marais.
Will do! Thank you!
