Best Paris neighborhood for one relaxed evening before flying home?

We’ll be finishing a little over two weeks in France (Lyon, Bordeaux, and Strasbourg) and will be staying at the Hilton at CDG the night before our flight home.

We’ll have about five hours, from roughly 5:00 to 10:00 PM, to head into Paris. We’ve visited Paris before, but it has been a few years.

We’re not looking for a packed sightseeing itinerary. We’d just like recommendations for an area that’s easy to reach from the RER B where we can enjoy a good dinner, walk around, and spend a relaxing evening before returning to the hotel.

Where would you recommend?

Im always partial to the Latin Quarter. RER B stations at St Michel Notre Dame (close to the Seine) and Luxembourg. Nice strolling, Seine cruises available at Vedettes de Pont Neuf, and lots of cafes, brasseries and bars.

Quieter than the Pl. St Michel area of the Latin Quarter by the Seine, one stop further south on RER B is the Luxembourg stop. By the Luxembourg Gardens and near the Sorbonne.

1 km or so walk to the east is Rue Mouffetard for casual eateries. Last fall, we quite enjoyed Otto (Michelin Bib, not starred), near Place de la Contrescarpe, but there are many other more casual restaurants along Rue Mouffetard.

Eglise St Etienne du Mont is also near there. A quiet yet historic church and a worthwhile stop, in case the Luxemboug Gardens, whatever may be on display at its museum and Rue Mouffetard are not quite enough to keep you engaged for five hours. There are, of course, cafes, book stores and ice cream shops in the neighborhood, too.

If you visit St. Etienne, don’t overlook the stained glass collection in the Cloister Gallery or the side chapel of St. Genevieve. See wikipedia article on St. Etienne
