Best Paris getaways in August, Marriott?

Myself and my wife are lucky enough to be living in Paris for 3 years. We're going to take a 4-day weekend around Assumption Day (August 16-19) and we're looking for the best places to go to get out of the city. We're Marriott platinum status and we'd like to maybe get to Titanium this year, so if it's at all possible, we'd like to stay Marriott.

We went to Cannes a few weeks ago and it was LOVELY. Stayed at the JW Marriott right on the beach and couldn't have been happier.

Could you give us a few things: how long are you willing to spend in a train or flying, a list of places within that perimeter with Marriott hotels, your interests—do you want a beach, a casino, art museums, hiking, wine tasting.

If it were Accor hotels, we could tell you anywhere in France. I don’t have a clue about Marriott and its family of hotels.

Thanks for asking for specifics!

  • Train only, no flying. Probably a max of ~5 hours one way.
  • We did the beach last time, so no beach would be fine, but we wouldn't be opposed to it either, especially as the weather gets nicer.
  • No interest in a casino.
  • Art museums, hiking, wine tasting, food, etc. are all enthusiastic "yes."
  • Also interested in things that might be off the tourist path; we both speak fluent french, so language barrier isn't a concern.

There are a things to keep your eye on during that weekend: heat, monster traffic coming back to Paris which includes full trains.
I’d go north. Bruges. It doesn’t have vineyards, but it does have incredible beer, many good restaurants that serve excellent wines, many one or two Michelin stars restaurants, art and traditions. You can go walking or bicycling out to windmills or take a local train to the nearby seaside.
While in Belgium you could check about getting to Ghent and Brussels for art, too.

I loved Ghent. There was a beautiful brick exterior Marriott right on the canal that I noticed while there. It's a very relaxed small little town, so 4 days may be more than you need but I'm a fan. I also loved Bruges. Larger, and more to see, but also more crowded. Everything is so close by via train, that you could set yourself up in one location and do a day trip or two as well.
