Just wondering if it is best to get tour tickets for the Eiffel Tower or just tickets to go on our own?
Also how many hours would you allow to see Giverny (we are going on our own)
Why would you need a tour to visit the Eiffel Tower? Giverny is a good half day trip. Get your timed tickets in advance and try for an early morning entry.
I would allow most of one day to visit Giverny. Get there are early as you can.
Eiffel Tower tickets are issued in waves, from 60 days before a visit, until 7 days before any visit.
I would probably only do a tour of the ET if I couldn't get tickets the regular way. I have a friend who has done one that took you behind the scenes, I think it was with Fat Tire cycle tours but did not have a biking component.
I agree that you should set aside a full day for Giverny. It's easy to do on your own. Train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Vernon, shuttle bus (no reservations, it's first come) to Giverny, Monet's house and garden with timed entry tickets. Walk thru town to the church to see where he is buried and to see the memorial to the Lancaster bomber crew that went down near Giverny in June, 1944. Lunch at some point either before the garden or after. Reverse the process on the way back.
I like to get one of the direct trains to Vernon so be sure you look carefully. Book this on the SNCF-connect app so you've got the tickets on your phone. Book your Monet's home ticket on their official website.
