Best of Eastern France in 14 Days Tour - a few questions

For those who have taken the Best of Eastern France in 14 Days Tour or have just travelled to the areas covered ... would you recommend the Spring or Fall dates? I see the Spring dates do not start till April (where the Portugal dates start in March).

Also, did you feel you saw enough of Annecy? I see it is just a 'pass through' town, with lunch/boat ride.

Any other pros/cons of this tour? I am comfortable in France on my own, but still considering a tour. I would most likely extend after the tour in the Provence area.

Thanks for any info!

We took this tour in May 2022 and really enjoyed it. We wore a jacket in the first few towns, and definitely in Chamonix. By the last few stops it was quite warm, and Aix was hot. Maybe the heat in the south moderated by fall - will be interested to hear what fall travelers say. Re: Annecy, we took a boat ride and had a short walk/time on our own in the town. That was enough for us, but if you wanted to bike around the lake, etc, you could easily enjoy another day or two there.

We enjoyed this fabulous tour last September (17th) . Beautiful weather. One hard rain in Colmar. The beauty of a fall tour is harvest time, beautiful vineyards, celebrations, the autumn light, etc. Chamonix was stunning. Crystal clear day. Unforgettable. We arrived Reims 3 days before tour start. One day trip, via train, to Épernay, enjoyed a champagne house tour.

This was our 2nd favorite tour with RS. (1st favorite Turkey).

I'd recommend avoiding the week before and week after Easter. Have a wonderful trip. Safe travels!

Pat, is that just because it is more crowded, or because things are closed? I was in France from March 15 - April 14 in 2023, I guess I was actually in Paris on April 9, which was Easter ... I don't remember anything in particular??

My experience has been the increased crowding around the Easter holidays, as Europeans are often on holiday, plus Americans on spring break.
I wish you a wonderful trip.

We took this tour the end of August and into September. One reason we chose the date was Rick had put the tour on sale. As it turned out, it was an excellent time. Weather was picture perfect most every place we went.
Chamonix was especially wonderful. The only difference for that date was the normal winery visited outside Beaune was closed for the month of August. Our 2nd favorite tour after Best of Italy.
