We are visiting the Normandy landing areas in September. What are the best museums to visit? We will have half a day there, and will mainly visit the American areas of the invasion.
Someone asked this question about a month ago, to which I posted my opinions (about 2/3 of the way down):
Given the driving time needed to get from place to place, a half-day doesn't necessarily allow any time at all for museum visits. The invasion area of Normandy covers a lot of ground.
I thought the invasion museum in Bayeux was a good balance between reasonable size and coverage, but even it takes around 2 hours to see fairly comprehensively.
If you only have half a day go to the American Cemetery at Omaha and then go down to the beach. You won't have time for any museums.
Go to Omaha Beach, see the cemetery, visit the beach and nearby Overlord Museum. That will take up your 1/2 day quite well.
Sorry, I missed the "half a day" part of your original post. I agree with others. I don't think a half-day is sufficient in any way for visiting Normandy, and if I was absolutely stuck with that limitation, I certainly wouldn't waste any of that precious time in a museum.
