best means of transportation from Paris (6th arr.) to CDG

We will be traveling to CDG on a weekday (leaving our apt. at 8 a.m.) and would like recommendations on the best way to go. We only have a small (albeit heavy!) rolling bag each, plus a small backpack.

Inbound we used the Metro to get to our apartment from our arrival train station and the many, many stairs were a bit too much. (We are left wondering if there is an online resource that reports on the number of stairs to access each Metro line!?!)

So, while we could use the nearby metro station (Sèvres-Babylone) to get to Gare Montparnasse that isn't as appealing to us as in our younger, more agile days. What would be a reasonable, recommended alternative?

keri,

You could arrange transport with one of the many firms offering "shared shuttles" to the airport. I normally get the hotel to pre-arrange that the day prior to travel, but if you're staying in an apartment you'll have to make the arrangements yourself. The shuttles I've used have always dropped me right at the door of the terminal I'll be using.

As Ken says, take a shuttle (or a Taxi) but another way is to take a taxi to Blvd. de Vincennes at Place de la Nation where you can take Bus No. 351 directly to CDG, all terminals. Costs 3 metro/bus tickets and takes more or less an hour.

Private airport transfer. Its the easiest option. We used Inter Service Prestige. They picked us up at our apartment door at 7:30am & drove us directly to the drop off point at Terminal 2A. Easy peasy & only 50 euros. Money well spent IMHO. Enjoy Paris!!!

We've just returned from today's walk and tried out the "reverse trip" from Luxembourg (Metro/RER) to our apt. It was about a 30 minute walk, all on level ground, which would not be bad if we start out early in the morning (say, 7 a.m.). Rolling isn't bad for us -- just stairs. And since we're on the 3rd floor we have to begin with a 3 floor 'roll down' for any strategy. At the Lux. end there were only 2 smallish flights of stairs down to the RER track. The RER-B to CDG does seem like the least challenging all the way around, yes???

Oh, yes, and THANK YOU for the other suggestions for shuttle and bus alternatives. I'll be checking them out, right after I recover from today's hike!!

We went to a hotel across the street from our apartment in the 7th and asked for them to arrange the airport shuttle which they were happy to do. It was $36 euro for the two of us and worked out well.

You're not planning on banging down 3 flights of stairs pulling your bags behind you at 7 am are you? I hope I read that wrong...

Arrange a g7 taxi the night before. They are a lot more reliable than shuttles. Expect a few euros on the meter as they charge from dispatch. Be ready a bit early as they generally show a few minutes early. This is by far the best and most reliable way to get to the airport when you have an important flight.

Nigel, oh, no! We carry our bags (small rolling bags, remember) -- they are both "RyanAir legal" which means they are heavy only when carrying up/down stairs.

As for the noise, there is major construction on the building (outside, street-side) which seems to start at 7:30 am sharp. So our tip-toeing down the stairs (or even bumping) wouldn't be much competition for the heavy equipment.

Check out easybus and see if it's location will work for you. Very reasonably priced and no hauling luggage around.

EasyBus, Paris

We were scheduled for a pick-up in Paris at 6:45 am bus showed up around 8:00am, by then more people had arrived than there was room on the bus.

We were the first to have arrived and were at the front of the line, the bus driver decided to stop at the end of the line, so the free for all started to get the luggage on board the bus. My wife got on board and reserved a seat for me while I tried to get our luggage loaded.

By the time my turn came to load our luggage there was only the seat my wife had reserved for me available on the bus and there was another passenger who wanted to get on board, so the driver decided that the other passenger would be given the seat because is time slot was closer even tough it was EasyBus who was responsible for being late.

A heated discussion ensued and 10 minutes later and after a number of passengers on board where pleading to let me on board with my wife, the driver finally relented and consented to use the middle seat next to him ( equipped with a regulatory seat belt ) for the extra passenger.

We were finally on board but arrived at our gate a few minutes after the luggage check-in had closed so were refused boarding and had to rebook at our expense for an afternoon flight.

I have contacted EasyBus but they have not responded to my complaint.

BUYER BEWARE COMPLETELY, UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE.

HI Keri, I've taken the Luxembourg RER stop to CDG, and that's a dependable and fairly level option.

Enjoy your time in Paris!
