We are two women traveling through France for our first time for 10 days in late May. We're thinking of starting in Paris for a couple of days and making our way down to the Riviera. What are the "must see" places we should not miss? We're not really history buffs or interested in museums, but rather enjoy seeing charming villages and wineries. Do we travel by train, bus or rent a car? How long should be stay at each location? Your suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks, Anne
For a first-timer Paris needs much more than 2 days, even if you don't care about museums (you might care about the new wine museum!). The city is made up of a series of charming villages stitched together into a city.
Burgundy is one of France's wine regions. Beaune is a good home base for that area and is easy to reach by train. Many companies offer day-trips to the wineries - which is a better option than driving since you can sample all the wine you want and not worry about driving DUI.
From there you could take a train to Avignon which would make a good base for exploring Provence. Again, lots of companies offer day-trips to the regions wineries.
Pick up a France guidebook ASAP and start booking your hotels and tours.
