Still trying to decide what to do New year's Eve in Paris. Crazy to go to Champs Elysee?

Just got a short-notice work assignment to Paris over New Years and bringing my wife. Same question- Champs Elysee? From what I've seen online, the Christmas Market along the Champs Elysee stays open until 3 January so that could make it fun and atmospheric...but hard to say depending on the crowds. I'm guessing we're a little late for dinner reservations- might the Latin Quarter be a fun and reliable backup? My hotel is in the Montparnasse district- any New Years recommends for there?
