Thank you for sharing! Some suggestions go well beyond the beaten track, including a couple I had never heard of (which is noteworthy, given how much I love ice cream and seek new ice cream shops).
On the list, the one I really cannot vouch for is Mary. Given the good reviews I gave it three chances, but the sorbets fall way short (ice flakes), and the gelato is not as good as Pozzetto's 10 min away.

Lebovitz’s social media serve as a great inspiration/idea list for anyone visiting Paris.

And for ice cream, he wrote the book... literally.

Great post. I thought I had searched out ice cream in Paris but have only had ice cream at 4 of these -- now I have a list for the next trip. (when we were there this spring, the Grom in the Marais was closed -- hope it was temporary -- Grom often has really good flavors of the day)

Well...yum! Are you hopping a train to Paris, Kateja?

I just sent the link to my SIL who is currently in Paris with a group of friends so maybe they can work some in.

The vegan Snickers one looks delish. The Avocado gelato with espresso...not sure about that combo....

Thanks for a fun link!

This guy is new to me, so thanks! He also had a great article on San Sebastian further down in the link.

()There is a typo in the subject line: It is David Lebovitz

I have enjoyed reading 2 of his books about his moving to Paris and setting up an apartment. Lots of learning about the local culture and the various challenges. He was also testing recipes in the apartment.

Funny, plus some recipes too!

I highly recommend these 2 easy reads by him:

  1. The Sweet Life

2 .l’appart

He did! I own his ice cream book and have utilized many of his ice cream recipes and he is one of my primary resources! In fact, I just made his Mint-White Chocolate Ice Cream Shell the other day. I love his blog (now Substack) and everything he writes. My dream is to go to Paris and run into him and Dorie Greenspan. ❤️

I am just sad that he only mentioned my local (12th arrondissement) family-owned glaciers Raimo in a little parenthetical at the end. It's a classic, comfortable spot with absolutely delicious flavors.

Mardee, I am a huge fan of David Lebovitz and Dorie Greenspan and get their newsletters plus follow them on Instagram. Dorie lives part time in Paris near the Metro Odeon neighbourhood; a few years back I did see her walking in the Saint Germain area but I didn’t approach her out of respect for her privacy (although she is very gracious and probably wouldn’t have minded). David lives in the 11th and last year I went to one of his favourite Marches in the hopes of bumping into him but no luck:) I love how they both bring the food scene of Paris to life in so many ways.

Claire, how cool! I get Dorie's newsletter also and have made so many of her recipes! I don't think I would have approached either, but I'm sure it must have been tempting!

I think the best ice cream on the planet is Berthillon, which is on his list.

Hi MA Traveler, I too read l’appart, it’s hilarious. It was staggering the challenges he overcame remodeling their Paris apartment.
(There’s an audiobook, too)

Raimo is great indeed, love it! Unfortunately not very central for most travellers to Paris.

Fair enough, Balso, I see what you mean !

To make up for feeling slighted on their behalf by the listing, I think I will go again this afternoon hahahahaha

It really is astounding though how many artisanal ice cream makers there are in Paris right now though !!

Two additional notes :

1) Channa at Cafe Loustic in the 3rd has started carrying small-batch ice creams made by a top chef.

2) as a friend and I found out a week ago today, sadly the Alain Ducasse ice cream shop has no seating. We were looking for a cafe experience and didn't find it there (I am sure the ice creams are absolutely delicious!!).

By the way, Kim, if you haven't tried La Tropicale, you really should. It's great with original, complex flavors and you can eat on-premise for the same price as to-go.

The article made me try JJ Hings yesterday: there are very few flavors - maybe 6? - but it was delicious. Rose/Hibiscus ice cream + Peach/Miso sorbet in my case. Can recommend if you are hanging around Canal Saint Martin.

Lebovitz's recommendations can be trusted 100%! His blog has made my multiple trips to Paris so memorable.

MA and Dave, David Lebovitz and his partner just spent the last year renovating a new apartment of which the trials and tribulations have been documented in his Substack newsletter. Not quite as challenging as the first but after the pandemic ‘lockdowns’ they decided they wanted some outdoor space. They are still in the 11th and fortunately he still shares lots of suggestions for restaurants, markets, boulangeries, and food stores.

All I have to say is that if David Lebovitz ever had Graeter's ice cream from Cincinnati (especially the Black Raspberry Chip), it would at the top of his list. 😊
