We will be spending 4 nights in the 5th Arrondissement in late February, staying across the street from The Sorbonne. We have gotten plenty of restaurant recommendations for the area, but I have seen a couple YouTube videos of walking through the Latin Quarter, and the number of food stands is incredible, which makes my job of finding a good one that much harder. Are there any 'can't miss' stands, irrespective of ethnic cuisine? I would think that they will come in mighty handy when we just want a crepe or sandwich to go, not a full meal, whether it's lunch or dinner. Thanks!
I LOVED my nutella panini from Chez Nicos at 44 rue Mouffetard!! And, it was only €2! A very quick and easy lunch or snack.
There is a wonderful creperie just across Saint Germain Boulevard from the Cluny metro stop. Especially wonderful galettes, very big and filling for breakfast and good prices.
My favorite snack place is the one I'm near when I get hungry...
For dinner we like Polidor (RS recommendation) for basic French or we just wander around the rabbit warren of cheap restaurants near St Michael.
I have two favorite places for street crepes( windows).. one is on corner adjacent to St Chapelle .. hard to explain.. but they have a big Berthillion window there so you will see it.. best ham, cheese and tomato crepes ever.. a nice lunch. They use GOOD ham ( not nasty squares of boiled ham like you might see back at home) and REAL cheese.. and tomatoes that are red and taste like tomatoes..
The second one is on rue St Andre des Arts,, across from St Michel Fountain almost..
Both these places pour your crepe fresh.. I have seen a few carts that prepare some crepes ahead of time and then make them.. no way.. I want a fresh one.. ( and to be fair most places do serve them fresh made to order)
We also found a few good places to eat on Rue Des Canettes.. one place did not look like much at all.. but we had a very good cheap dinner there..
