best driving/mapping app for France and Germany

Traveling this June to Europe. Renting a car in Munich and going through Romantic Road, northern Germany, over to France to St. Avold, Tuol, Calmoutier, and then driving in Bayeaux, Caen area. Driving through several "small town' areas. What has anyone found to be the best app for iOS phone. I understand some are not as detailed for smaller areas. Any suggestions?

I've been pretty happy with Co Pilot. I did update Irish maps yesterday and saw notices about changes to their app. I think it still works okay (just reducing it to one worldwide app).

The app looks like a regular GPS and gives speed limits, warnings and speed trap warnings along with lane suggestions and other useful information. One negative was bike mode - that was a disaster. It's search function isn't as good as Google maps but it navigates fine without data (Google maps won't reroute if you miss a turn with data turned off). Sometimes I search for a street address with Google maps, then plug that into Co Pilot to drive.

I use their US app too but it works better in Europe.

When we did a road trip through Germany last summer we got the navigation system option with our rental car and it worked great. I will be doing the same thing again this year.

We rent a portable wifi from hippocketwifi.com that is with us and on 24-7.......and use the maps features on our IPhones.......works great as you can get service even in the smallest towns.

We rented a car that came with a gps, but we forgot to have the language changed to English (oops!). We ended up plugging in the destination and using the screen for visual directions, and also using offline maps in google maps. Google worked perfectly, even in remote areas. I’m not even bothering with gps on our next car rental in France. I’ll just download the maps for the areas we’ll need. No data needed.

We had a data plan for the SIM card, using Google Maps -- plus an old Garmin with newish maps -- for Strasbourg to Black Forest to Provence. Both seemed to give the same directions.
