Best central hotels in Montpellier

Hi, everyone. My husband and I are spending three nights, mid-March, in Montpellier. Any recommendations for a nice, mid-range/price hotel?

Thank you!

One person who posts here has booked the Grand Hotel du Midi, which has just been refurbished. It's at Place de la Comedie and a the closest to the train station. It looks good, but we don't have any feedback on it yet. Very central.

We personally know two guest speakers and a singer who were housed at the Hotel Mercure Montpellier Centre Antigone. It's across the street from the shuttle bus that goes to both the TGV station and the airport. It's also on two tram lines, to the main train station, Place de la Comédie, both opera houses, and a 10 minute walk to Place de la Comedie, etc

We stayed two weeks in the Citadines Appart'hotel Antigone in Montpellier, a block from the Mercure, on the tram 3, across the street from a covered market, and a 10 minute walk to the Place de la Comedie.

Finally, friends stayed in and others are booked at the Hotel du Palais, an older, charming, hotel on what I think is a wonderful square in the historic neighborhood. It's toward one of the edges of the historic area, but not far from the #4 tram, which makes a circle and goes to the older train station as well as the shuttle bus to the TGV station and airport.. It's a short walk just about anywhere in the historic area.

While nothing is too far apart in central Montpellier, I would definitely recommend staying in L’Écusson (or historic center) of Montpellier. The Antigone area is close, but very modern so it is missing the real feel of the city. My grandparents stayed at the Hotel du Palais while visiting me a few years ago and it was a cute place in a great part of the city. And don't miss the bakery Des Reves et du Pain a few blocks from there!
