best car rental experience at CDG airport?

Hi,

We are renting a car in Paris, and then going on a 4 week drive around the country. Our itinerary.....Paris to Epernay to Luxembourg to Colmar to Bern, Switz, to Lyon to Vichy to Dardogne to Bourdeaux to Cognac to Loire Valley to Paris. That is a LOT of driving! We LOVE road trips and went the other way, once and back.

Has anyone found the best car rental co to deal with? We used SIXT last time, but after getting excited they were giving us a BMW, we found out (too late), it was a big gas guzzling SUV!

I wouldn’t mind an off airport site, but I’m having a hard time feeling good about CDG airport car rental companies.

Thanks for any advice!

I love a good road trip, too! Since you are planning a month long rental, the auto lease-repurchase plans offered by Renault and Peugeot are worth considering, particularly if you want a smaller automatic transmission car. With this plan you get a brand new car with full insurance... and exactly the car you ordered, no stress and negotiation at the rental counter. I’ve rented a lot of cars in France and Europe over the years and the lease/repurchase was always the easiest experience.

I’ve gone through AutoEurope 3 times and got cars from Europcar and Hertz at CDG. No hassle, great service from both companies and always got the car I requested.

I've used Europcar in Britain and had a great experience with them. We are renting from Europcar spring 2020 from CDG and am hoping for the same. That's my only experience and I could choose a small automatic, but it was a good one.

Years ago, I rented from Avis at CDG and had no issues. We still use Avis on our trips when we rent a car. Mostly, who one rents from is a personal preference and past experiences.
