Anyone ever rented a car to get to Beaune from Sarlat or Bordeaux? Training from Bordeaux to Paris then to Beaune will take all day!!

google maps shows it as an approx 7 hr drive by car
rome2rio shows a train solution at ~5.5 hrs total

It's a long drive no matter how you do it. It could be slightly faster by car, if you leave from Sarlat which is closer to Beaune than Bordeaux. From Bordeaux, for sure the train because of the TGVs will be faster than driving. You could take the 15:08 from Bordeaux St Jean to St Pierre des Corps and change there for the train to Beaune. Total time is 6 hours and 36 minutes and there is no way you could drive from Bordeaux to Beaune in that amount of time. From Sarlat, it might be a push to drive because you would have to get from Sarlat to someplace with a TGV route passing through it.

The train is significantly faster from Bordeaux. It's the drive that will take you all day.

It's easier to make the connection within one station at St. Pierre-des-Corps, rather that crossing Paris by public transport between the major train stations. So I'd prefer that 15:08 departure from Bordeaux.
Also, if testing French train schedules for later in the year, it's best not to use one of the spring days threatened with strikes because schedules may be showing some odd, work-around schedule options.
