Traveling by train for a 3 night stay in Strasbourg before taking our daughter’s family for her 1st Parisian experience, we need an experience based recommendation for the best Castle for our 5 year old grandson’s adventure. Please and thank you.
The most spectacular castle in Alsace, and one of France's top tourist attractions, is Haut-Kœnigsbourg.
There is a shuttle bus, but access is easiest by car.

The are many castles and castle ruines in Alsace, many hidden away in the mountains so not so easy to reach. Haut-Kœnigsbourg not interesting only for the castle itself but also for the fantastic view over the Rhine Valley with on the opposite side the mountain range of the Black Forest. In Kaysersberg there is a castle ruin, nice panoramic view from the tower there.
We visited Haut-Kœnigsbourg in 2015 and loved it. I think it would be a good castle for a 5 year old because there aren't many objets for a 5 year old to destroy, and plenty of room for a kid to be a kid!
HK was terrific and I’d think a little boy would agree. After seeing the castle we hit the cafe for snacks and drinks overlooking the vista. We had a car, parked along the road and walked the rest of the way. A very nice visit.
On the road up to HK from Selestat, there is also a trained eagle demonstration, and a monkey zoo. Might be of interest to a 5 yo.
