Headed to Bergerac, France in October. Anyone been? Any suggestions for lodging? Thank you.
No sorry. I flew out of Bergerac but I stayed in Beynac on the Dordogne.
Hi Lisette, I go to Bergerac often but as we live only 40 mins west, I've never stayed in town. I hear there are a lot of gîtes in the area so you may start by looking at Gîtes de France. You will also want a car to see the greater area of Bergerac. October is a beautiful time of year there. Hope you enjoy it!
I stayed in Bergerac three nights this past May. I was very happy with a reasonably priced 1-bdroom VRBO listing on the river called "Glorious riverside town apartment with private garden overlooking La Dordogne ." The host, Clare McVeigh, is British and very accommodating, and we found the town very charming for a short stay. We didn't have a car and found we didn't need one. Nothing in town worth visiting is more than 30 min by foot.
We stayed in a most beautiful bed & breakfast in late September 2024. Le Clos Argenson. Simply lovely. Stayed for two nights at the end of an active bicycle tour. Tranquil, filled with lovely antiques, but with mod cons. Sweet owners. Magical. My husband & I loved it, and the darling town. Walked (wandered!) all around Bergerac & along the River path. Farmers Market. No crowds. Nothing touristy (in 2024.)

Thank you all for the great suggestions for this small town. Lisette
