We are going to be in Bergerac for 3 weeks starting September 6th. Want to cruise France south from there. Any good suggestions? We have a car.

Maybe I'm too late. Look at Domaine dl la Quessie. Stayed there for a couple of days 4 years ago. Lovely food prepared by the madame. Visit the winery Montbizillac (I don''t think that's the right spelling}.
Beaumont has the last night market of the season; when we were there last fall that was Sept 5. If you can check it out. There are some snapshots of the night market in this photo journal entry on Commarque Chateau (which is itself an interesting visit from Bergerac area)

We stayed in a small village called Cadouin which is famous for a ovely abbey which is worth a visit. We also visited chateaux in the region. There are many weekly markets; we went to the one in St. Cyprien and feasted on the goodies. Don't miss a canoe trip on the Dordogne (not the Vezere which is boring for that purpose). This is a wonderful area. Check out Martin Walker's mystery novels about Bruno a local police chief modeled on the chief and town of Le Bugue where the author lives. It gives a particularly good intro to the culinary delights of the area.
