We are two families traveling together looking for a home base in the Dordogne region. We will have a car to travel between many of the villages. Would love to stay in La Roque but home prices seem higher than Belves. Is Belves a good option? Is it safe?
We just returned from the Dordogne region (we were two couples) and stayed at the fabulous L'Ombriere. The couple was amazing and the breakfasts were delightful.
We found it extremely convenient for canoeing the Dordogne, visiting Beynac and La Roque, as well as the Lascaux caves, Sarlat, Domme, and Belves.
Make sure you make a reservation for La Belle Etoile in La Roque - delicious food on the river for a fraction of other Michelin star restaurants !
We made a stop in Belves 2 years ago (as well as in La Roque Gageac). Like La Roque, it's one of the Plus Beaux Villages. It's very charming, and would make a great location for seeing that part of the Dordogone.
