Belgium-eastern France

We have a car and wish to travel back roads and small towns. Southern Belgium, down to French alps, returning to Paris airport, then home. We have 8 days. Second time in France, so, being easily amused, we wish to just wander. May 7-14. Will we need reservations for hotels, or can we wing it?

Don't know if you'll be affected but in case you don't know: May 8th is a holiday in France. Because it falls on Tuesday, many places may be closed on Monday too. The 10th (Ascension Day) and 11th are holidays in Belgium. The 10th is also a holiday in France.

Merci beaucoup! We will definitely take that into account. Do parks and natural lands stay closed As well?

Hard to say how strictly closures in various locations are observed. Closer to your travel dates could you locate specifics about various destinations using their web sites? Small towns in particular are apt to have most shops and restaurants closed.
