Bayeux - Hotel/B&B vs AirBnB/VRBO

Bonjour!

I've looked through previous posts but I couldn't find anything that concerning my question. My wife and I are going to France in July and will be going to Bayeux for 3 days; we are wondering if it's better to stay at hotel/b&b or an apartment rental there as well as any recommendations outside of the ones in Rick's guidebook?

Thank you in advance and any information is appreciated as always.

I usually opt for apartments when we are staying several days in a location and might want a kitchen and washer dryer. Without knowing more it's hard to make a recommendation of one vs the other for you.
We stayed at Le Petit Matin b&b while in Bayeux and found it very nice. Big comfortable rooms, modern roomy bathrooms, beautiful garden, excellent breakfast and helpful hosts. There is street parking across the street around Place Charles de Gaulle. It's within easy walking distance of the cathedral, tapestry museum and several very good restaurants. I don't have the RS guide so don't know if this is one of his recommended places. https://www.lepetitmatin.fr/en/

We stayed at this VRBO in 2015. It still gets high ratings. It is small, but the location could not be more perfect. Literally right on the main street, close to everything.

Merci Katheryne! Actually I pinned Le Petit Martin as one of my preferred places to stay at so this has moved up my list.

I stayed at the Hotel Reine Mathilde in October. They have an apartment in the hotel. There is a Carrefour City (small supermarket) around the corner. ( I didn't stay in the apartment but it was in the same annex building as my room.)

When staying 3 or more nights I often book an apartment with a washer. I just booked one in Bayeux for 3 nights in October on Airbnb. I used to use VRBO, but I prefer Airbnb for the ability of not paying the entire rental amount at the time of booking (Airbnb lets you split it into 2 payments) and the cancellation policies. Each rental is different, but I try to find places that can be cancelled a day or so before arrival. You never know these days what might happen. Airbnb does not pay the host until after you have been there for 24 hours. If you arrive and find things unacceptable you can contact Airbnb and find another place. I wish I had been able to do that in Paris 11 years ago. The apartment was awful. I had booked it through VRBO, they had my money and I was out of luck.

We stayed at the historic Lion d’Or and enjoyed it and the atmosphere there. Family owed for generations and hosted most of the WWII leaders and generals at one time or another.
The restaurant was excellent. I still dream of their rice pudding at breakfast!
Centrally located with parking.
We only stay at AirBandBs if staying a week or more.

We stayed at this apartment in Nov. 2019. Great location. Washer/dryer combo. Great host. Paid parking lot across the street. Right on the Main Street in the center of town. We’re a family of 4 so we prefer apartments for the space, kitchen and laundry facilities.
