Bayeux dinner recommendations

I’ll be there Friday through Sunday, leaving Monday

I have Moulin de la Gallette on my list, possibly La Normande….Le Rapiere sadly is booked up.

In America, I’ve sometimes had luck calling because restaurants often leave tables open ….I’m guessing that’s not the case in France?

Is there another, similar restaurant to Le Rapiere?

Thank you!!

Have a look at Le Pommier and Maison B - I'm booked in there as well as Moulin for next month!

I think La Rapiere was booked in March when I was looking!

Lin, I will check them out! If I end up going to either. I will post here!

I’m annoyed at myself for waiting until I’m almost there …

Thank you!

We really enjoyed the Rick Steves recommended restaurant, Le Quarante Neuf, just outside Bayeux.

I always call for reservations. I have found some online reservation services only offer tables at less desirable times, very early or late. However, la Rapière reservations usually require a two week lead time. You can always call and ask if there has been any cancellations.

Lion D’Or Hotel has an excellent dining room, recommended to my wife and I by staff at La Rapiere.

Bookgirl - love your name- I’m not sure if I want to leave Bayeux…is it a king drive? I’d have to take a taxi

Tocard, I’ll do that -nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Thank you!

We ate at Le Moulin de Galette and it was delicious! We usually split a dessert, but we each had our own here! I would definitely have reservations. We went there after an 8 hr D-day tour.

Gigi, I have reservations for 9 pm tonight…it’s much later than I normally eat, but I wanted the terrace…can’t wait !

Ooh, did you do the tour with Overloard? Because I’m doing a tour with them on Sunday…

Yes Betsy, we did the Overlord tour and am so glad we did. We went not only to the beaches and cemetery, but to battle sites, paratrooper drop sites, German bunkers, and had so much explained to us that we would have missed if we had gone on our own. Excellent choice!

Yes for Hotel le Lion D'Or restaurant, very nice meal.

L'Alcove we all agreed was the best meal we had in 13 evenings in Bayeux, Amboise and (!) Paris.....better value also. Yeah, probably should have reserved a month ago (sadly). Some of the restaurants we booked had a sign noting that "The service is full...no walkins".

Le Pommier also a very good evening, perhaps not quite as outstanding as L'Alcove

All meals about 1 month ago. Wanna go back......

Looking forward to our stay at Lion d'Or next month, with meals at Maison B, le Pommier, Moulin des Galettes and one other, not yet decided.

If anyone is going to be there July 12-15, meeting up for a drink would be good!

John, unfortunately Lion d’Or has a some seafood focused evening on Saturday - a buffet for 75 euros. Much as I like seafood, I don’t like it enough to eat THAT much of it - and I don’t like buffets. They’re closed Sunday

I was able to book a dinner for tonight - Saturday- at Le Volet Qui Penche, so yay!!

I might end up at my hotel restaurant on Sunday since I’ll be tired from the all day D-day tour

Thank you!!!

Gigi, thanks - I can’t wait! It will be especially nice to be by the water on such a hot day!

How long would you say the lunch break is - an hour?

Lunch break was an hour. We stopped in Sainte-Mere-Eglise where we were on our own for lunch and to explore before the tour began again. This is the town where John Steele, the paratrooper, got caught on the church pinnacle. So much history-so many stories!
